All of us have some unhealthy habits we’d like to change into healthy habits. When you become sick and tired of your unhealthy habit, you can use my 4 step plan to become healthier.  Here is my 4 step plan:

1.  Write a list of the reasons you want to change your bad habit.  For example, if you tend to eat badly when you are stressed, you can include in your list that eliminating this bad habit will help you to feel fitter, and look better.

2.  Make a list of what the bad habit does for you. To use the prior example, perhaps eating badly when stressed provides you with a temporary happiness and distracts you from what is stressing you.

3.  Make a list of healthier ways to behave in those circumstances.  Instead of eating when stressed, you could take a power walk around the block to clear your mind.

4.  For the next 30 or so days, set aside 5 minutes to sit somewhere you will not be disturbed.  Then imagine yourself in detail choosing the healthy habit. Think about exactly what it would look like and please include what you would be touching, tasting, hearing, and seeing. The more senses you involve, the more vivid the image will be, and the easier it will be for you to choose the healthier habit in your day to day life.

After you have changed your bad habit into a good one, I invite you to email me and tell me all about it so I can celebrate your success with you.  Good luck!
